Here we have three types of good quality head torch for camping, backpacking, hiking, etc. But what are the main differences, and why would you choose one over another? Well, it may simply come down to personal preferences, so we will list the differences below in order for you to compare them with each other.

STATION13 X1 & X2 Head Torches
NOT ALL HEAD TORCHES ARE CREATED EQUAL
Note: Our X2 Head Torch differs from our X1 Head Torch in having separate white and red LED lenses which provide a slightly longer light throw at the expense of wider area of light coverage. The X1 is a higher power unit so will provide a greater overall total light output over our X2 at maximum setting. If you prefer a wider floodlit area, then our X1 Head Torch will likely suit you better. If however you would prefer potentially slightly longer running times and a slightly longer light throw, then our X2 will probably be the better option. Both are feature-packed quality head torches.

The X1 and X2 are our new high performance, very high quality, rechargeable LED head torches. Compact, versatile, powerful, and full of features.
X1 & X2 KEY FEATURES:
Aimed primarily at campers, backpackers and hikers, these powerful head torches can of course also be used in multiple situations requiring a powerful portable hands-free light source. Great as a portable emergency light source for both outdoor and indoor use - DIY applications, car repairs, etc.
However, one reason the X1 and X2 will be of great use to campers, backpackers and hikers in particular is the multiple lighting functions provided by these units.
Along with powerful white LEDs with multiple brightness settings, a strobe, distress beacon (and SOS feature on the X1), there are lower power red LEDs for maintaining your night vision and/or relaxing around the campfire at night without blinding any companions. Of course the Distress Beacon and SOS modes on these head torches can also provide potentially life-saving signals.
These head torches clip onto the headband bracket and can very easily be angled to suit individual needs at the time. A single push-button at one end of both the X1 and X2 aluminium tube body provides access to every lighting option. The torches can also be removed from the head band altogether and used in the hand if required.
On maximum power the white LEDs of the X1 can provide a genuine 800 lumens (1000 lumens in TURBO Mode), the X2 440 lumens (560 lumens in TURBO Mode). These are very bright for relatively compact, multi-function head torches. Unlike the X2 (and also the RayFall head torches that we also supply), which give a more focused spot beam, our X1s provide a wide unfocussed floodlight for a wider spatial visibility.
Both the X1 and X2 without battery weigh in at just 44g (90g with battery, 112g with battery and head strap). Length is 86mm by 35mm deep at the centre, dropping to a diameter of 25mm at the ends. Made from durable, strong and highly corrosion resistant 6063 aluminium, these head torches are also anodised and fully waterproof to IP66/IP65.
Both head torches incorporate high quality, high power 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries which are good for 500+ charges and discharges.
Charging is carried out via an included USB to mini USB Type-C cable. The 18650 rechargeable battery is replaceable if ever necessary, but can also be removed for use in a suitable third party standalone fast charger, though in most cases simply charging via the built-in mini USB port will be quite adequate and more convenient.
Our X1s and X2s are of a very high build quality. They feature multiple lighting modes, and also have sophisticated built-in electronics, that includes over-charge, over discharge, over-heat and short circuit protection. As such our head torches should not be confused with the many similar cheaply made and inferior head torches on the market. Many budget torches (head torches and hand torches) are supplied with very inferior, very cheap (sometimes dangerously cheap) 18650 batteries that blatantly underperform, or indeed are fake branded - we have sourced only genuine 18650 batteries for our X1s. The powerful 2500mAh 18650 battery we employ in our X1 can provide maximum brightness LED power for around 2.3 hours. Lowering the brightness will extend this runtime considerably, and bear in mind that full power (800 lumens) is extremely bright and unlikely to be needed in most situations, or for long periods. There is also the option of an upgrade to a 3500mAh battery which will increase run times considerably.

Our head torches are supplied with their batteries in a storage charge state. To fully charge the battery, and indeed to recharge once discharged, the X1 and X2 can be charged via the mini USB (Type-C) to USB cable included. Access to the mini USB charging port is gained by partway unscrewing the knurled cap on the on/off push-button end. The push-button on the end of the unit will light up red initially while charging, going to green when the battery is fully charged. As stated, these head torches have protection circuitry built-in to prevent over-charging, over-discharging, over-heating and short circuits.
Admittedly head torches may be a little more expensive than many other similar looking items, but when other head torches are selling for just the price of a decent 18650 battery, clearly something has to give, corners have to be cut, and initial looks can be deceiving... and often it's what you can't see that makes all the difference.
We much prefer our items to exude quality, offer reliability and provide performance… this may come at a slightly higher cost, but, as the saying goes, ‘You get what you pay for’. There are an awful lot of inferior, poor quality items on the market dressed up to be something they are not.
