Lightweight Camping Chair - SLING
Lightweight Camping Chair - SLING
Our SLING is a strong, but lightweight and very portable chair that folds down into a very compact size for ease of carrying. The SLING comes with its own carrying bag which provides a compact size of just 43cm x 13cm. The chair itself weighs in at just over a kilo: 1.05kg in its carrying bag.
Whilst ultra-lightweight campers and backpackers would think it absolute sacrilege to even consider carrying a chair with them on a camping trip, to others though, a chair is an almost essential piece of equipment. The sheer luxury of being able to sit comfortably and relax after a long walk or backpacking hike, can for some, make a lightweight camping chair a very worthwhile, if not invaluable, addition to the pack.
Of course there are multiple uses for a portable lightweight chair, and chairs such as these are also very popular with fishermen and bird watchers, to name but two.
We looked hard and long at lightweight camping chairs before we finally committed to our SLING. We were concerned about the strength of various lightweight chair constructions and the longevity of the materials employed.
Many very similar low cost lightweight camping chairs have plastic joints that are prone to fail. Apart from the fact that plastic is in itself inherently weak, with time and UV exposure it can degrade, suffering embrittlement. In hot temperatures it can become soft and almost pliable, and in colder temperatures we are again faced with it becoming brittle. High end, expensive lightweight chairs can have strong nylon joints, but with the cheap chairs it is just low cost moulded plastic. With this in mind we wanted to do away with problematic plastic joints altogether. Our SLINGs are therefore designed in such a way that the frame is constructed entirely of strong 7075 aluminium alloy.
The seating material is durable 600D Oxford cloth polyester fabric with breathable mesh sides.
For actual chair dimensions please see the photo in the listing.
Whilst they have been tested with weights of 150kgs, this amount of weight will no doubt put considerable strain on the construction and materials in the long term, so we recommend our SLINGs as being suitable for anyone up to around 140kgs.
All of the alloy sections of the frame are held together with bungee cord which makes setting the frame up very fast, and with very little effort or thinking involved or required. These chairs can therefore be set up in far less than a minute.
Once the frame is set up, the material seat is simply located on to the four frame rod ends... and that's it, the seat is up and ready to use!
You will notice that our SLINGs employ sand feet. These are designed to help prevent the chair legs sinking into sand or very soft ground.
