Though not recommended or approved by the DofE organisation, the lightweight backpacking tents that we specialise in are of course also suitable for any young person or persons undertaking the DofE Award outdoor challenges.
Not only are they compact and lightweight, but they offer tremendous value for money, especially when compared to similar big brand name tents. Our one person tents range from a mere 1.1kg to 1.85kg, and our two person tents range from 2.1kg to 2.75kg. Each tent has its own merits and choice can often come down to individual needs or preferences and whether you want to share a tent or have your own private little shelter.
While our Skylar and PYRAMID one person tents are the lightest, these particular tents are probably less suitable as a DofE Award tents due to the fact that they require walking poles to erect, and not all young people will be hiking or trekking with walking poles, and the Skylar in particular is a bit of a specialist tent. However, our TOPWIND 1/Glencoe 1, weighing in at 1.85kg, our Whisper and SHIELD tents, and indeed our Backpacker tent, weighing in at just 1.5kg are all well worth a look. The TOPWIND 1/Glencoe 1 and the Backpacker tents are very straight forward to erect - very fast and very easy to set up - but our Whisper and SHIELD tents are even faster to erect, as they can be erected all in one with the inner preattached. Our two person tents are of course larger tents, but unlike many brands of tents, our two person tents are spacious enough for two adults and their kit, each tent capable of accepting two full size sleeping mats side by side.
