STATION13 Glencoe 1... NOW IN STOCK!
Our Glencoe 1 is basically a slightly uprated version of the GeerTop TOPWIND 1, 3/4 season tent. Though the physical shape and size of our Glencoe 1 is the same as GeerTop's TOPWIND 1, there are some technical differences:
Glencoe 1 Specifications:
Note: The 183cm x 57cm Z-pad shown in the photos of the tent is not included, but is for illustration purposes only.
The main difference between GeerTop's TOPWIND 1 and our new Glencoe 1 tent is that the Glencoe 1 has a stealthy Olive Drab Green coloured polyester flysheet, whereas the TOPWIND 1 features a bright red or yellow nylon flysheet. Now whilst the nylon flysheet of the TOPWIND 1 is slightly lighter in weight than that of the Glencoe's polyester flysheet, the polyester flysheet is less prone to sag when wet. Both tents have the same flysheet hydrostatic head (HH) of 3000mm, and the inner tents of both are the same in all but colour (the Glencoe 1's inner tent is light grey), however, the Glencoe 1 also features slightly stronger 8.5mm aviation grade 7001-T6 aluminium ProFlex tent poles.
As with the GeerTop TOPWIND 1, our Glencoe 1 tent comes in a nice roll top compression stuff sack.
While the slightly heavier, but stealthy Olive Drab Green polyester flysheet, and the thicker, stronger tent poles of the Glencoe 1 make it around 150 grams heavier than the TOPWIND 1, this is not excessive and we personally feel that this slight increase in weight is justifiable. Our Glencoe 1 and GeerTop's TOPWIND 1 tents also feature a warmer full polyester inner tent, so will cope with cooler weather conditions better than lighter tents that employ all mesh inners. They also both feature the nice double doors on the inner tent. That is, the inner tent doors have both full polyester and bug mesh panels that can be opened and closed independently, so providing really good ventilation and privacy options.
The two vestibules/porches provide good space for rucksack, boots and other gear.
Whilst some of our other tents might be less weighty, they may also be more minimalist and less roomy. Our Glencoe 1 and the TOPWIND 1 are really good tents offering some very nice features and good functionality at a respectable weight.
Though these tents feature a very simple dome style pole configuration, they are very nice, well made, one person backpacking tents with a small pack size and a total weight of just less than 2kgs (including tent pegs, guylines, bags and the compression stuff sack). Of course, for the minimalist backpacker, the overall trail weight can be reduced further by removing all the bags, straps, compression stuff sack, etc.
The real beauty of these tents is actually their simplicity. There is nothing complicated, nothing counter-intuitive, nothing you have to think about. These tents do pitch inner first, which will no doubt deter some folk, but they are extremely fast and very straight forward to erect, with the inner free-standing once the two alloy poles are inserted. They can easily be pitched and set up in just a few short minutes.

NOTE: The Glencoe 1 photos were taken in bright sunlight and has washed the flysheet colour out somewhat. The photo of the packed tent on the scales below best represents the true flysheet colour.

Lightweight Backpacking Tent - GeerTop TOPWIND 1
The GeerTop TOPWIND 1 is a one person, 3/4 season, high quality, lightweight backpacking tent.
The weights break down as follows:
Outer flysheet: 432 grams
Inner tent: 794 grams
Aluminium alloy poles: 392 grams
Tent pegs & guylines: 124 grams (aluminium pegs: 92 grams - 11.5g per peg)
Total: 1.742 kgs
Total with the carry bags, guylines, pegs and compression stuff sack: 1.846kgs
Pack Size: 42cm x 15cm
This little lightweight tent features high quality 8mm, ProFlex 7001-T6 aviation grade aluminium alloy tent poles which provide a nice stable structure; the tent poles are shock-corded, strong and flexible, and anodised for even greater corrosion resistance. The TOPWIND 1 tent comes with either 8 x V-section aluminium tent pegs (also anodised) or 8 x Superlite titanium tent pegs, along with two guylines.
Note, the total tent weight with our Superlite 5g titanium tent pegs comes down to: 1.794kg
The flysheet is made from 20D 360T 3000mm HH PU-coated ripstop nylon with taped seams and UV protection. The inner tent is mainly full 210T breathable polyester fabric with some nylon mesh, and the bathtub floor is 210T PU4000mm waterproof polyester. It has two, nice large entrances and reasonable storage space in the form of two vestibules.
All seams are taped to provide a fully waterproof seal at the stitching. All seams are double-stitched with reinforced box stitching at any potential stress points.
There are pitching instructions sewn into the carry bag - not that we expect you will need them with this tent.
This tent is a one person tent for people wanting a high quality, high performance tent that is not only incredibly practical, light enough to carry for hours on end when backpacking, but also spacious enough to provide some creature comfort.
High quality materials and high quality workmanship provide an extremely good, value for money, lightweight tent, that can perform and compete favourably with far more expensive big brand name tents in a similar category. In fact we think this little GeerTop tent is one of the best lightweight backpacking tents you can get for your money. Please do not mistake this little tent for a cheap throwaway festival tent or the very inferior quality tents often available from superstores and the like, there really is no comparison. Indeed if you are looking to compare this tent with other tents (and, I know I would), then compare it to the big brand, expensive tents and you will find the specifications of this little tent are right up there with them... but the price is not!
The TOPWIND 1 backpacking tent has two entrances, one either side, with the inner tent featuring both polyester and no-see-um bug mesh doors. The inner tent itself is primarily breathable polyester fabric, with two mesh triangles right in the middle at the top to allow air flow. The inner tent, like the flysheet, has an entrance either side, and what is nice about the TOPWIND 1 is that each inner tent door is a double door - that is, each door has both a full polyester fabric and a bug mesh door. Hence you can either open just the polyester door and leave the bug mesh door closed to keep out the little beasties, open both or keep both closed to keep the warmth within and/or provide additional privacy. So, this little tent is extremely versatile when it comes to ventilation, air circulation, heat control, and indeed privacy. There are also two vents at the top of the flysheet that can be propped open. Two vestibules provide a total storage space of around nine square feet – big enough for a decent size rucksack and boots, etc. The internal height of this little tent is a respectable 100cm.
The inner tent has a sewn-in bathtub floor measuring 210cm x 90cm with 15cm high sides. At 180cm tall, I fitted inside comfortably when lying down. The steep angle of the alloy poles means that the inner tent does not come down too shallow at the head, foot or sides, so even though the floor is only 90cm wide it does not feel particularly cramped. It is a nice and bright tent and does feel deceptively big and airy for a one person tent. In feet and inches I'm 5'11" and the length was extremely good for me, with easily around 6 inches to spare. So this little tent should certainly accommodate anyone up to around 6'3"/6'4" in height at a push.
With small tents, as far as inner tent length or floor length is concerned, much depends on how much of this stated length is actually useable. You can find tents with much longer floors, but due to the tent design - some with very low sloping sides and shallow angles - you may find that your head and feet are pushing the inner tent onto the outer flysheet even though you are in fact far, far shorter than the listed tent floor length. The design of the the TOPWIND 1 lightweight backpacking tent is very good in these respect, maximising the floor space and indeed the length. The height of the TOPWIND 1 at its highest point is 100cm.

This tent is available in either bright yellow or red, and while some people may prefer a more subdued colour, I personally like a nice bright interior to my tent, it makes it feel bigger and less claustrophobic. Unless you are discreet camping or wild camping whereby the more natural green colour of our new Glencoe 1 would better suit your needs, from a safety point of view, bright coloured tents can effectively be life savers; should you ever suffer a mishap when up a mountain or out in the wilds, you can always use your brightly coloured tent to attract the attention of potential rescuers - worth bearing in mind!
I should just emphasise that the TOPWIND 1 is not a 4/5 season or mountain tent, and whilst we would not recommend using this tent in winter or extreme conditions, for general lightweight backpacking from spring to autumn in the UK, this is a cracking little 3/4 season tent.
This lightweight camping tent comes as standard with lightweight, 11.5 gram V-section aluminium tent pegs, however we do provide the option to have the tent with our Superlite 5g hook titanium tent pegs. The Superlite titanium tent pegs almost halve the weight of the standard aluminium tent pegs should anyone feel the need to further lighten their load, and brings the overall weight of this tent down to just under 1.8 kgs.
Please note: All modern lightweight tents feature a lightweight flooring fabric, and though it can be made extremely waterproof, it is much less resilient, hence much more prone to damage by sharp implements - thorns, stones, etc. - than the thicker, heavier materials employed by tents of old. I always use my polythene emergency survival bag as an additional groundsheet, and for this purpose it works extremely well. However if I did not have this, for peace of mind, I would surely employ an additional lightweight groundsheet for the extra protection it would offer to my lightweight tent floor.
IMPORTANT : The GeerTop Tents that we supply are genuine GeerTop Tents, made of high quality materials and manufactured to the specifications detailed. However we should point out that there are other manufacturers in China that copy designs but use inferior materials and cut corners on construction and labour (there appears to be no laws against this in China). For example, we have seen numerous outwardly identical versions of the TOPWIND 1 advertised, that you could easily be fooled into thinking is the exact same tent, but at a far better price... BE CAREFUL, things are not always as they seem, and on closer inspection you will find cost-cutting is evident and indeed is the reason for the seemingly better value - you will not be getting better value, rather you will be getting a cheaper tent for a reason. There can be blatant differences or subtle differences, but all can affect reliability and performance. So just be aware of this.
