The GeerTop SHARK 2 is a high quality, two person, three season, lightweight backpacking tent. Though marginally heavier than the Desert Fox 2 tent that we also supply, the SHARK 2 is manufactured from slightly more robust fabrics, has more features and provides an all round superior hydrostatic head.
This lightweight two man tent has been manufactured for us by GeerTop. It has been manufactured to exacting standards and to a very high specification, with a higher hydrostatic head compared to many other similar, two man lightweight tents. This is a rather interesting and unusual design of tent - a hybrid between a dome tent and a semi-geodesic tent resulting in a very stable structure with plenty of head room. The GeerTop SHARK 2 is a high quality tent of very nice, eye-catching design, and a true two person tent.

High quality materials and high quality workmanship provide an extremely good, high specification, value for money, lightweight tent, that can compete favourably with far more expensive big brand name tents in a similar category. Please do not mistake this tent for a cheap, inferior quality budget tent as are often available from superstores and the like, there really is no comparison. Indeed if you are looking to compare this tent with other tents (and I know I would), then compare it to the big brand name, expensive tents and you will find the specifications of this tent are right up there with them... but the price is not!
This tent has two large entrances for very easy entry and exit, both of which feature double doors. That is, like our Glencoe 1 and GeerTop TOPWIND 1 tents, each door employs both a full polyester door and a full no-see-um bug mesh door that can be opened or closed independently. This is a very nice feature that can provide extra privacy when required while also allowing greater ventilation and air flow options. The inner tent of the SHARK 2 consists of more full polyester than many lightweight tents (including the Desert Fox 2 that we also supply), making it warmer and less draughty than tents that feature a mostly mesh inner. This also makes it a three season tent that will likely cope comfortably with all four seasons in the UK.
The SHARK 2 comes with two quality 8.5mm ProFlex 7001-T6 aviation grade aluminium alloy tent poles; these tent poles are shock-corded, strong and flexible, and anodised for even greater corrosion resistance. The SHARK 2 also comes with two guylines and 10 x 5mm aluminium hook tent pegs as standard (with the option of our Superlite 5g titanium tent pegs). The inner tent sewn-in bathtub floor as measures 200cm x 140cm, with 15cm sides. Unlike many so-called two person tents that are really only suitable for one person and their kit, the SHARK 2 is a spacious, genuine two person tent. The tent pole configuration of the SHARK 2 tent make it a hybrid between a dome tent and a semi-geodesic tent. The unusual pole configuration does create a very stable structure giving nice steep sides which in turn provide a roomy interior and airy sleeping space with very good head room due to the 115cm internal height. Two 50cm vestibules provide plenty of room under the flysheet for rucksacks, boots, etc.
Whilst some people might consider this two person tent to be not so lightweight at 2.75 kgs, you have to bear in mind that this tent has a warmer, near full polyester inner tent and both polyester and bug mesh doors, which are extremely nice features, and which we feel justifies the small additional weight penalty. Add to this the fact that the SHARK 2 really is a true, two person (and their kit) tent, then this means that when the tent is carried between two people there is only an individual weight burden of just over a kilogram each. We are well aware that some of the big brand names do offer what they label as two man tents that weigh around half the weight of the SHARK 2, but to achieve this they have to employ less resilient materials and provide you with far less sleeping space/vestibule space... and of course they are going to charge you around three times more than what we charge for the SHARK 2. Here at STATION13, we wanted a very nice, very good value, and true two person tent to complement our one man tents, and with the SHARK 2 we think we have found it.
The SHARK 2 features a PU-coated polyester flysheet with an extremely good hydrostatic head of 5000mm, and with full UV protection. The tough, 210D PU-coated Oxford fabric bathtub floor features a hydrostatic head of 6000mm, and being 210D is considerably more robust and resilient than many other lightweight tent floors. Yes, this heavier duty floor does add weight, but it also makes for a far tougher floor than the very high-priced, very small, big brand name, two man tents that utilise tissue paper thin floors in order to reduce weight! All seams are taped to provide a fully waterproof seal at the stitching. All seams are double-stitched and reinforced at potential stress points.
Sizewise, with a floor length of 200cm and fairly steep inner tent walls, this tent will comfortably sleep people up to around 6'3". While the 140cm width (which runs the full length of the floor) will accommodate two full size sleeping pads or inflatable mattresses side by side, with ease - the same of which cannot be said for all so-called two person tents.
To erect the SHARK 2, two long shock-corded ProFlex 7001-T6 anodised aluminium tent poles are fed through full length sleeves on the inner tent and located into metal eyelets on the four corner straps (it is easier to do this before you peg the inner tent out). Once the two poles have been fed through their sleeves and slotted into their respective metal eyelets on the straps in the four corners of the inner tent floor, you just need to peg down the corner straps and the tent is up and free standing. The inner tent is effectively free standing once the two poles are in place, which means that the whole structure can be easily moved to the best pitching spot.
Like all good quality modern tents, the flysheet is draped over the inner tent and buckle-clipped into the corner straps. There are numerous Velcro attachment points on the inner tent and flysheet that mate together to hold the flysheet securely in place over the inner tent. It is just then a matter of pegging out the flysheet nice and evenly.
Make no mistake, the SHARK 2 is a very high spec, high quality, genuine two person, lightweight tent that is spacious enough to comfortably sleep 2 adults with room for their rucksacks and kit in the vestibules. This lovely two person tent nicely complements our range of smaller one man tents. With the SHARK 2, you get a lot of tent for your money.

Please note: All modern lightweight tents feature a lightweight flooring fabric, and though it can be made extremely waterproof, it is much less resilient, hence much more prone to damage by sharp implements - thorns, stones, etc. than the thicker, heavier materials employed by tents of old. I always use my polythene emergency survival bag as an additional groundsheet, and for this purpose it works extremely well. However if I did not have this, for peace of mind, I would surely employ an additional lightweight groundsheet for the extra protection it would offer to my lightweight tent floor. As mentioned, the SHARK 2 has a more resilient sewn-in groundsheet than many lightweight tents, but additional protection is never going to be a bad thing. We do have lightweight groundsheets for 2 person tents available.
This tent is also available with our Superlite titanium shepherd's crook tent pegs. Note: the standard candy cane aluminium tent pegs weigh 14 grams each, whereas the 150mm x 3mm Superlite titanium shepherd's crook tent pegs weigh just 5 grams each, providing an overall weight saving of 90g.
