Fast Boil Pot and Stove Kit
Highly Efficient 1.5 litre Pot and Stove Kit
We have two gas stove options with this Fastboil pot kit. The first option is the Bulin BL100-B15 Mk2 stove. The second option is the much lighter weight ALCOS CS-G05 stove.
- The BL100-B15 stove is more powerful, larger and heavy duty, boils water faster and is designed specifically for the fast boil pot so can be more efficient (but can also be used as a stand alone stove).
- The CS-G05 stove is around 200g lighter, slightly less powerful and slightly less efficient as it is not designed specifically for the fast boil pot as is the BL100-B15. However, this stove option is also considerably less costly.
Features:
Please note: Gas canister is not included.
You may be familiar with MSR’s JetBoil or similar pieces of kit that are basically a dedicated pot and stove designed to be very efficient and boil water fast. And indeed they do just that. Efficiency of a fast boil pot and stove over a regular pot and stove is said to be in the region of 30%.
There is however a couple of potential issues with the more usual fast boil setups. The first is that they stand quite high, with a relatively high centre of gravity that can make them a little unstable. The other point is that because the stove is solely dedicated to the pot, often (unless you acquire additional items) the stove is totally unsuitable for use with other cookware, and indeed in some cases can only be used with its own dedicated pot.
Now, you may have noticed that the gas stoves we provide all use a remote gas canister. We like this setup because, unlike stoves that screw directly onto the top of a gas canister, the low centre of gravity means that they are far more stable and so much less vulnerable to blowing over or being knocked over. Also, the gas control is on the remote canister, so easy to get to and away from the hot stove itself.
So what we wanted was a fast boil set up that utilises a remote gas canister, but still had all the efficiency of a regular fast boil setup.
What we ended up with is a high quality remote canister gas stove with a thermally efficient fast boil pot, but with much reduced height, hence lower centre of gravity resulting in a far more stable setup.
As with other Fastboil kits, our fast boil pot features the all-important integral heat exchanger and this pot is coupled with a high power gas stove. Unlike standard pots, the fast boil pots in these kits feature an integral heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is made up from a ring of folded metal fins (similar to those you will find on radiators), which absorb and hold on to the heat produced by the gas flame, and it is this arrangement that provides part of the greater efficiency. However, unlike other fast boil set ups on the market, the stove itself is not solely dedicated to the pot and so can also be used as a regular, stand-alone stove for cooking with other cookware and without the need for any additional items.
We feel this fast boil setup is not only inherently more stable, but also far more versatile. And, like regular Fastboil kits, the gas stove and gas canister still fit nicely inside the pot, hence keeping the overall bulk to a bear minimum.
In our tests the combination of the fast boil pot and the ALCOS CS-G05 high power gas stove boiled 500ml of room temperature water in just 1 minute 40 seconds, whereas the dedicated BL100-B15 Mk2 stove boiled 500ml of room temperature water in just 1 minute 15 seconds!
This kind of efficiency means that not only will you have a hot drink/meal very quickly, but also your gas usage will be far less and hence your canister will last longer.
Now, whilst these fast boil set ups are very efficient in terms of boiling water fast and hence reducing gas usage, they are not particularly suited to backpackers because they tend to be a little on the bulky side, and some Fastboil kits are really only suitable for boiling water. They do however have their place, and if fast boiling and energy efficiency is your main priority, then they are well worth a look.
One thing to bear in mind is that neither the BL100-B15 or the ALCOS CS-G05 stove feature a piezo ignition, so have to be lit manually BEFORE the pot is located on top of it.

Above: When the BL100-B15 stove is used with the fast boil pot, the inner pot stands swing up and over to allow the pot to sit right down on top of the stove burner.
With a weight saving of 200 grams, the ALCOS CS-G05 is a lighter option to the dedicated BL100-B15 stove if weight is more of a priority. The smaller CS-G05 also takes up less room in the Fast Boil pot
Note: 100g/110g screw-on gas canisters of the design indicated in the photos will fit inside the pot with the stove. The pot lid will fit snugly and the handle will flip over to hold the lid in place. Larger 230g gas canisters will also fit into the pot with the stove, but these will protrude slightly higher than the pot lip, and hence the lid will no longer fit. However, if you want to use the larger 230g gas canisters, the answer is to put the lid in the mesh bag first, then put the pot with the 230g gas canister in on top. The pot handle will then flip over and hold the gas canister in place, and everything will be still be stored nicely within the mesh bag.
Above: The 100g Highlander gas canister fits easily, with room to spare.
|
Above: The GoSystems 227g canister easily fits width-wise, but it's height protrudes slightly over the lip of the pot not allowing the pot lid to fit.

The pot and lid, the gas stove in its pouch and the net storage bag.
|
The gas stove and highlander 100g gas canister in the stove pouch, all fit nicely inside the pot.
|
Below: The gas canister fitting is the standard screw type, so any screw type fitting gas canister will work (as in the blue CAMPINGAZ canister shown below left), but not all will store into the pot.
